A brand identity is the set of decisions a company makes once so it can look like itself a thousand times, and it is the most-entered category in the awards. The designer starts with how customers see the company and what the business wants to be known for, then builds the rules that keep the wordmark and the palette consistent on a business card and a building. The identities that win are the ones that behave well across every piece a company actually ships. Mermaid and Test Monki have each won 24 times with systems a small business can run itself, and FemmeFolio's identity for One Of Us, a women's sports bar in Ohio, took a full page for feeling like the place. The best branding designers and identity studios in the country are on this page. Open any program to see the system and learn what makes it hold together.
