WHAT IT IS: Intra-oral sensors are small devices that dentists place in the mouth to capture detailed images of teeth and gums. They come in various sizes and the x-ray images they capture help in identifying cavities and assessing gum health. WHY IT MATTERS: Benco Dental's VisionXR is a private-label alternative to name-brand intra-oral x-ray sensors at an attractive price. This is important because intra-oral sensors cost thousands of dollars but, because they are constantly being cleaned/sanitized and used in patients' mouths, they experience a great deal of wear and tear and require regular replacement. WHAT INFLUENCED THE PACKAGE DESIGN: Despite the Vision XR's comparatively attractive price point, it is a sleek, durable, high-resolution digital device that competes with more expensive products. The package design was crucial in terms of meeting customer expectations, particularly if they are coming from a name brand product. We wanted them to have an unboxing experience that would reinforce their purchase decision, while also showcasing the product's tactile feel and sleek industrial design. The goal was to communicate: you only spent less...you didn't get less.
