Environmental graphics are the brand at the scale of a building, and they're usually the most expensive square footage a company ever puts type on. The designer works with architecture and sightlines, choosing what a visitor reads from fifty feet and what rewards them up close, and the drawing has to specify materials as well as letterforms. The winners here belong to the building they're in. Multistudio's work at Allen Fieldhouse won its category by extending Kansas's identity into the architecture, and Bradley Brown Design's locker rooms for Washington & Jefferson put a century of records on the walls. The best environmental graphics designers in the awards are shown here. Open any project to see the space and learn how it was built.
