A poster is graphic design in its purest commercial form: one surface and a wall that owes it nothing. The designer has a passerby's three seconds and a type size that has to read from across a corridor, so the first thing a reader sees has to be the one thing the client needs them to know. The winners here stop you and then tell you where to be. Tarrant County College's graphic services team has won 21 times with campus posters built on type, and Adri Torres's MUWI festival posters took a full page for merging painted texture with digital portraits of the performers.
