Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD)

As a future designer, art director, or creative director working within a diverse global community, the Communication Design program at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design prepares students to create compelling 2D, 3D, and 4D visual communication that informs, engages, and educates in innovative ways.

Students think conceptually while developing visual literacy and a distinct creative voice through thought-provoking, engaging projects that challenge skills and encourage growth. They learn to communicate ideas clearly and create visually compelling solutions to complex problems. Throughout the program, students build strong presentation and collaboration skills while developing their portfolios through specialized electives, real client projects, and design internships in Milwaukee and beyond.

The Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) is Wisconsin’s only four-year, private college of visual art and design, offering BFA degrees in Communication Design, Illustration, Product Design, Fashion and Apparel Design, Interior Architecture and Design and Fine Arts (New Studio Practice). Throughout MIAD’s Communication Design program – closely tied to its award-winning Illustration program – students have the opportunity to work with professional clients in the classroom and through the MIAD Innovation Center.
