UVU Herbert Institute Annual Report 2025

Utah Valley University (UVU) found itself reeling with grief and confusion following the assassination of Charlie Kirk on September 10, 2025. The UVU Herbert Institute for Public Policy (HIPP), a non-partisan government relations department focused on inspiring students to be civically engaged, was poised to confront the aftermath head-on. Some students vocalized concerns regarding the open carry laws in Utah, others . Our community needed healing—both in the immediate sense and long-term. We believe our 2025 Annual Report included written and visual stories that nurtured a culture of community healing in the months following. The UVU Marketing and Communications style guide includes lots of green, shapes/patterns, and Proxima Nova fonts. The in-house graphic designer for HIPP, then a full-time student, met the moment by weaving the healing narrative into the unique elements of UVU's established style guide. Colors and shapes were paired to narratively support the 3 sections of the report: Lead, Gather, and Trust. In a day and age when institutional trust in the public mind is deteriorating, this annual report invites students/UVU community members to experience the healing balm of empathy and understanding by a civic entity championing UVU's mission—exceptional care, accountability, and results.
