“Context: Radiology and MRI centers operate under strict regulations: security zoning, controlled access, mandatory ADA signage, and critical protocols for patients and staff.”
Context: Radiology and MRI centers operate under strict regulations: security zoning, controlled access, mandatory ADA signage, and critical protocols for patients and staff. Approach: How to design a signage system that complies with medical and ADA regulations, communicates clearly in high-risk contexts, is modular, bilingual, updatable, and reflects a technical yet human visual identity? Process: A modular system of 3D-printed signs was custom designed, organized by MRI zones with color coding: green, blue, yellow, and red, according to the risk level. Each piece includes raised text and braille to comply with ADA, but a custom graphic language that enhances their communicative quality. The modularity allows for adding or replacing information modules without replacing the entire piece. The system operates in Spanish and English, addressing the bilingual reality of Puerto Rico. Result: A modular, bilingual, and accessible medical signage system that translates complex regulations into clear, consistent, and updatable communication for a radiology center, but also projects a unique visual personality.
