Prolonged and continuous use of social media can create lots of problems with distortion of reality, and enhance the feelings of social isolation while also fostering addiction to the very platforms that are festering these feelings. While these platforms are meant to foster the concept of social connection, it is the unfortunate truth that to many users these very applications are also the cause of the problem. These applications, when heavily depended on by users, are known to cause an uptick in mental health problems such as anxiety and depression, and are also seen to negatively impact personal and professional life due to their distracting and addicting nature. Creating a solution to this problem, where users are able to create a healthier relationship between themselves and social media, will help to decrease these negative effects seen due to dependency and hopefully foster a well-rounded social life. And that is precisely where Focusly comes in. Focusly is an app that works to allow users to track their online and social media usage, in a way that helps them stay aware of their online presence to better improve their life. The ability to track, set goals, and monitor progress helps to accommodate this mission.
