Entries go through the GDUSA entry platform. Past winners in this category came through the American Inhouse Design Awards and the American Graphic Design Awards. A single entry costs $120 as of October 2026, and packages bring the price per piece down to $400 for ten to twenty entries. COVID communications were the one brief every organization got in 2020, with no budget and no time, and the work had to change behavior in a hallway. The designer had to make rules legible at a glance in places never designed for signage, and keep the tone calm. The winners here say one thing clearly and say it kindly. Allina Health's brand team and Oakland County, Michigan each won three times with wayfinding and public notices that people actually followed. The designers who did this work well are shown here.
