A vehicle wrap is a billboard that goes to the customer, and a surface pattern is a brand that becomes the wall. The designer works on surfaces that bend and open, where a layout has to survive a wheel well, and the type has to read at highway speed. The winners here read at speed and hold up close. Astek's Maze surface pattern, designed with ArtCenter College of Design, took a full page for turning floor plans into wall coverings, and Agiliti Health's hospital bed labels made a pediatric unit feel less clinical.
