The School of Design, situated within the College of Architecture and Design at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. The BFA in Graphic Design is a four-year program that provides an undergraduate education stressing creative and intellectual thinking, diverse problem-solving, innovative investigations, and creative research in all forms of communication. Beginning with a Design-Centered Foundations program, students start from Day 1 looking at the world through the lens of design. Small faculty-to-student ratios in a studio setting create a dynamic and creative environment in which to learn.
After students pass portfolio review, they have access to a collaborative design studio. This space houses amenities any designer needs, like a small library, an individual desk, and access to a full graphic design print production lab- and to which students have 24/7 access.
The College of Architecture and Design is committed to staying on the leading edge of technology and innovation. Resources available to our students and faculty include the Digital Futures Lab, an AR/VR/XR design studio and the Fab Lab, an expansive 22,000 sq ft. production facility equipped with an array of analog and digital fabrication tools. These facilities also include a Robotics Lab dedicated to design automation. In addition, the School of Design students have support for national and international student field trips and course instruction.
