American Graphic Design Awards 2025
A touching film poster merges high Renaissance style with a paper grocery bag backdrop, highlighting a father-son bond.
Assignment was to illustrate the main characters: a father and disabled son, for a new film poster. The story centers around learning the job of bagging groceries, which inspired incorporating an actual paper grocery bag as background for the drawing. My approach was to roughly reflect a drawing style of the high Renaissance to portray the film's lead characters. Using frame grabs for reference, I utilized Painter and Wacom for my digital pencil work on a white background. Placed the final portraits of the actors — Cole Massie (L) and Lance Kinsey (R) — within my poster design which was layered on a scan of a paper grocery bag. Created the white linear highlights with Photoshop.
