The MACAA conference explores artists and educators as satellites, merging individual insights into a collective vision.
Every two years, The Mid-America College Art Association (MACAA) holds a conference for artists, designers, educators and students to share their latest work, theories of practice, methods and ideas. For 2024 theme of the MACAA conference was Satellite: The Artist and Educator as Orbital Connectors. The conference organizers focused on the idea that: "Artists and educators are satellites set on a polar-orbiting path, observing slivers of the world at a time, collecting data through tuned instruments, and sending out signals for others to intercept and interpret... We provide data points in an attempt to provoke, inspire, and transform the pieces of the world we interact with. We are a network of satellites distantly collaborating to build a higher resolution image of our world." The visual design of the conference focused on the concept of "particles merging together to build a larger whole." The imagery and motion graphics relied on particle effects, digital dust, noise artefacts, and customized monospace typography with stylized inktraps.
