NFCU Enterprise Campus Map Redesign

To address long‑standing inconsistency and “noise” in campus navigation materials, we developed a standardized, illustrated campus map system that replaces ad hoc, CAD-derived outputs with a designed, audience-first visual language. The work establishes a repeatable framework for multiple map types (e.g., executive visitors, general visitors, evacuation/assembly, parking, shuttle) with consistent labeling and iconography, built in Illustrator using layered files so elements can be toggled on/off for different use cases without redrawing from scratch. This approach enabled us to tailor maps to real stakeholder needs—especially external visitor wayfinding—while keeping the layouts simple, clear, and scalable across campuses. In practice, the system supports rapid iteration and accuracy in dynamic environments: we designed accessibility-forward enhancements (highlighting ADA parking, accessible ramps, and key outdoor spaces) and aligned distribution to a “single source of truth” model by promoting link-based sharing over static copies that quickly become outdated during construction or facility changes. Early stakeholder feedback validated the design direction—one executive visitor map version was shared with an external visitor and described as a “big step up” from prior maps, confirming improved clarity and usefulness for real-world navigation.
