MyLights – Smart Lighting Experience Reimagined Overview MyLights is a mobile app designed to enhance the way people interact with their home lighting systems. It transforms ordinary lighting into a personalized and immersive sensory experience. With MyLights, users can effortlessly set moods, automate routines, and synchronize lighting with their daily life, all from the palm of their hand. Problem Traditional lighting systems often lack emotional resonance and adaptability. Users want lighting that aligns with their moods, activities, and environments, yet existing smart home interfaces are often fragmented or overly technical. Goal The goal was to design an intuitive and visually engaging experience that allows users to easily control and personalize their smart lighting. The app aims to make lighting feel not just functional but also emotional, creating atmosphere, comfort, and connection. Design Approach The design process began with exploring how light influences human emotion and perception. Through user research and mood mapping, the app’s experience was built around simplicity, fluidity, and aesthetic warmth. The interface adopts a minimal yet expressive visual language, featuring soft gradients, glowing accents, and intuitive controls. The color palette draws inspiration from the natural transition of light throughout the day, from dawns to evenings. Key Features 1. Mood Presets: Users can choose from curated lighting moods (e.g., Relax, Focus, Party) or create their own combinations of color, brightness, and warmth. 2. Dynamic Scenes: Lights respond dynamically to music or motion, bringing energy and emotion to everyday spaces. 3. Scheduling & Automation: Routines automatically adjust lighting for morning wake-ups, movie nights, or bedtime relaxation. 4. Group Control: Manage multiple rooms and lighting devices seamlessly from one dashboard. 5. Music & Smart Integration: Integrates with major music applications for a cohesive connected experience. Design Highlights The final UI system emphasizes ease of use through clear iconography, consistent spacing, and smooth micro-interactions. The app’s interface adapts elegantly across light and dark modes, ensuring usability in various environments. Each interaction was designed to evoke a sense of control, comfort and delight, mirroring how lighting itself shapes human emotion. Outcome MyLights delivers a seamless bridge between technology and mood.
