A13–220 transforms a studio apartment into a tactile, 1:1 scale artist's book that captures the essence of daily life.
A13–220 is a 220-page artist’s book that reconstructs my 220-square-foot studio apartment at a 1:1 scale. Each page measures and represents exactly one square foot of my living space—a tear-off, folded sheet that can be unfolded and assembled to form a life-sized blueprint of the entire apartment. The book title refers to my own apartment number, A13, merging personal address with spatial notation. Drawn in meticulous black-and-white linework, the blueprint documents not only the architectural layout but also the intimate, ephemeral traces of daily life: strands of hair, used napkins, orange peels, a toothbrush. Every object, no matter how mundane, becomes a part of the spatial record. Paging through A13–220 mirrors the act of walking through the apartment itself—each sheet labeled with its position on the grid (A1, A2, A3, etc.), transforming systems of measurement into a form of autobiography. The book oscillates between precision and absurdity: an attempt to quantify personal space, to contain a lived reality within exact dimensions. Through its folded structure and 1:1 logic, A13–220 invites readers to experience scale through touch and imagination. It is both a technical document and an emotional map—a translation of lived space into printed matter, where measurement becomes memory and the apartment becomes a book you can literally step into, one square foot at a time.
