A13–220 transforms a studio apartment into a tactile, 1:1 scale artist's book that captures the essence of daily life.
A13–220 is a unique 220-page artist's book that reconstructs Tonia Yuqi Zhang's 220-square-foot studio apartment at a 1:1 scale. Each page represents one square foot of her living space, designed as a tear-off, folded sheet that can be unfolded to create a life-sized blueprint. The title, A13–220, references her apartment number, blending personal identity with spatial representation. The meticulously drawn black-and-white linework captures both the architectural layout and the everyday traces of life, such as strands of hair and used napkins. This innovative design transforms the act of paging through the book into a journey through the apartment itself, allowing readers to experience the scale and intimacy of the space, making measurement a conduit for memory.
