Signage is the design a visitor uses without choosing to, and when it fails the building fails with it. The designer decides what a visitor reads from fifty feet and what they read up close, and the drawing specifies the materials and the mounting as well as the letterforms. The winners here get people where they're going and make the place feel like itself. Mass General Brigham's Springboard Studio took a full page for a mobility speedometer that lets a patient and a care team talk about the same goal, and CoorsTek's training academy graphics made a factory floor legible to new hires. The best signage and environmental designers in the awards are on this page. Open any project to see the space and learn how it was built.
