Best of the Year
Best Other of 2018
The other that won a GDUSA award in 2018, each with the firm and the designers credited.
92 award-winning projects
Some of the best work in the awards fits no category, which is what this one is for: maps, gift boxes, playing mats and the pieces a company needed that no catalog of formats predicted. The designer here is solving a problem from scratch, without the conventions a packaging or poster brief comes with, and the result has to explain itself. The winners here are useful first and handsome second, and are judged on both. Navy Federal Credit Union's illustrated campus map replaced inconsistent CAD exports with one drawn system, and Smurfit Westrock's Sivar gift box carried a piece of El Salvador to families abroad. Designers whose work didn't fit a box are collected here. Open any project to see it and learn what problem it solved.
