The Visual Communications department at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University embraces emerging and traditional forms of visual storytelling.
Its design program emphasizes strategy, problem solving and human-centered design to create smart, intentional, innovative solutions in print and pixels, including motion, 3D, UI/UX, XR, brand identity, product packaging, typography and publication design. The Visual Communications department values designing for social good, cross-media partnerships, workshops and collaboration. We encourage students to let their passions drive their focus and academic path and are proud to support and foster the individuality of its students and their unique voices and vision. Graduates of the design program have gone on to work at places such as IDEO, Google, Adobe, IBM, Facebook, Amazon, Mapbox, Washington Post, New York Times, Sports Illustrated, National Geographic Magazine, Herman Miller, Trip Advisor, U.S. State Department, and their own businesses. The program offers both a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design and a Master of Science in Multimedia, Photography, and Design degrees.
